Elm Grove is a peaceful village in Waukesha County, Wisconsin that prides itself on its small-town charm. Its tree-lined streets invite leisurely strolls and the expansive, well-maintained yards and gardens provide sanctuary for birds and other wildlife. Neighbors socialize at block parties, picnics at the park, and with friendly business owners in establishments such as O’Donoghue’s Pub in the middle of the village. Elm Grove was even named as 'America's Best Suburb' by Business Insider in October 2014.
The residents of Elm Grove, WI are so passionate about their village that volunteers fill organizations such as the Elm Grove Woman’s Club, the Elm Grove Junior Guild, the Friends of the Elm Grove Library, the Elm Grove Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, the Elm Grove Garden Club, and the Golden Kiwanis. Volunteers are responsible for the continued success of Elm Grove’s community theatre, Sunset Playhouse. Some volunteers even tackle the challenge of “keeping seniors off the streets” through programs at St. Mary’s Senior’s Club.

Early settlers were first drawn to this fertile agricultural area during the mid-1830s. In 1848, the year of Wisconsin’s statehood, more than 650,000 white oak timbers and planks were laid to make it easier to travel the 58 miles from Milwaukee to Watertown. That is how the Village’s main thoroughfare, Watertown Plank Road, began. In 1856, the railroad, later to be known as the Milwaukee Road, laid a track line which intersected the plank road, thus giving rise to even greater community development. Before long, a U.S. Post Office, inn, train depot, general store, mill, and tavern were in operation.
Today, Elm Grove’s government is headed by a village president and overseen by a board of trustees, the seven members of which are elected to two-year terms.
