The Southeastern part of Wisconsin is the most populated region and also the most developed. It is home to the state's largest city, Milwaukee, in addition to Kenosha, Racine, and Waukesha–the fourth, fifth, and seventh largest cities. Though Wisconsin shares some cultural similarities to Chicagoland to the south, it has its own distinct character, supported by a diverse economy with a mixture industry, tourism, and agriculture.
As the busiest region in the state, Southeast Wisconsin is serviced by various interstate freeways, state highways, daily rail service, and the General Mitchel International Airport. The primary method for getting around Wisconsin is car travel. I-94, I-43, Hwy 41/45 provide easy access to most of the region. Meanwhile, major cities like Milwaukee and Racine offer practical practical public transportation options such as Amtrak. Downtown Milwaukee offers the Hop, also known as the Milwaukee streetcar. The Hop has a 2.1 mile initial line that connects the Milwaukee Intermodal Station and Downtown to the Lower East Side and Historic Third Ward neighborhoods.
Wisconsin boasts a great variety of real estate that caters to many different lifestyle preferences. Properties for sale include single-family homes, condos, townhomes, multi-family properties, land, ranches, and more. With its rich history, upscale amenities, and family-friendly destinations, Waukesha County is a place you'll love to live in and explore. Its interesting mix of busy cities, quiet suburbs, and rural landscapes makes it a dynamic community. Moreover, the county is in a great location close to many popular destinations. These include Milwaukee to the East, Chicago to the south, and Green Bay and Appleton to the north. Waukesha County offers easy access to I-94 and Hwy 16. Waukesha County has 259 lakes. People often refer to the Northwestern part of Waukesha County as the "Lake Country" area. These areas of Lake Country area often include the communities of Chenequa, Delafield, Hartland, Lisbon, Merton, Nashotah, Okauchee Lake, Oconomowoc, Oconomowoc Lake, Pewaukee, Summit and Ottawa. Just outside of the Lake Country area are two popular cities Brookfield, and Elm Grove. These are located in the middle of the Lake Country area and Milwaukee.
In terms of population, Milwaukee County is the largest in the state, and 47th largest in the country. Situated along the shores of Lake Michigan, and covering a 241 square mile area, Milwaukee County is a mixture of metropolitan, suburban, and rural communities. Its municipalities range from large urban centers like the City of Milwaukee, to small towns like Whitefish Bay , Shorewood and Bayside.
With its gentle landscape of rolling hills, towered by the historical landmark of Holy Hill, Washington County provides a a welcoming residential atmosphere. It is also the ideal county for outdoor enthusiasts. Inland lakes like Big Cedar Lake, Little Cedar Lake and woodlands set the foundation for a variety of recreational activities. These include hiking, skiing, snowboarding, hunting, fishing, golfing, and much more. Meanwhile, its convenient location along US Highway 45 and US Highway 41 makes it easy to get around.
Just minutes away from Milwaukee, and less than two hours from Chicago, Ozaukee County is ideally located along 25 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. With its natural beauty, cultural heritage, small town charm, and historic districts, there is much to love about living in Ozaukee County. Residents and visitors alike will find a seemingly endless variety of things to do, see, and enjoy. Popular places to live include Mequon, Cedarburg, and Thiensville, among others.
Racine County enjoys a prime location in Wisconsin, with Milwaukee a mere 30 miles to the north, and Chicago only 60 miles to the south. Meanwhile, Interstate 94 conveniently links it to Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis, and other major destinations. There is no shortage of things to do in Racine County. Whether you love the outdoors, cultural activities, shopping, architecture, or whatever else, Racine County likely has something for you.
Kenosha County is the southeastern most county in Wisconsin, with Racine County to the north, Lake Michigan to the east, Illinois to the south, and Walworth County to the west. It is home to many families and young professionals. With its many restaurants, coffee shops, park, and bars, Kenosha County enjoys a vibrant social scene. Meanwhile, its public schools tend to be above average. Popular places to live include Somers, Pleasant Prairie, Bristol, and Paddock Lake.
